    vk's time period/setting

Post by stilldollgaze on Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:04 am

What kind of time period is vampire knight in?The question hit me when I was looking at one of the bonus stories particularly "a certain lady's loving tales about her marriage" and Juri said that this memory goes back when she was much muuuuch younger

    www.mangahere.com/manga/vampire_knight/v10/c048.5/2.html

And in the memory the uniform style and school building look a lot like today's modern anime time period for school ;like modern uniform & normal school building

    www.mangahere.com/manga/vampire_knight/v10/c048.5/3.html

But now my point is :is vampire knight in the future because Juri's high school days are in modern time and she is over 3,000 and just didn't change much or maybe Hino-sama just didn't think about it? What do you think?

Ha..interesting, I guess she does have a modern-day high school outfit. xD But then if you look, her dress she was wearing before telling the story makes her look like their in the 1800s.... but Yuuki is only 17 so by our standards...it makes no sense! xD Maybe time is backwards in Vampire Knight? It goes from future to past.lol It seems like Vampire knight present has still an old-timey feel to it... the streets are all made of stone, no modern technoligy has really been shown, but then again with Shiki & Rima's modeling it makes you wonder..maybe everyone's not so old fashioned after all lol. You know how the town right outside Cross Academy was said to be filled with Vampire Hunters and people associated with them? Well, I think that maybe it's just the town that is old fashion, you know, in keeping with tradition? Old buildings kept in tact and such, a historical town. Or Vampire Knight is just an alternate universe where everything reverts instead of advances. lol But this makes me think of something else.... Kaname's past. It really did look like a long time ago, and not really advanced either... he was in a village full of farmers. Idk, the time-flow in VK is just all over the place! xD

I don´t think that it play in the same world we live in! Think abour Kaname´s past, the clothes are something too modern for that time (just mentioning one point). I think that we can´t compare it to our standards, it´s absolutely different, or do you know these underworld trains who are that fast? or have you see one of them using mobile phone yet? (in our time everyone uses it very often)

Haha you know I thought of this same thing AGES ago, but I always forgot to post about it xD I always thought VK was maybe set in the 1960's - 1970's (There was a TV in one bonus chapter, but that there have been no mobile phones being used at all in VK, I suspected it would be around that time)

Kaname as the Ancestor was likely to be back in the "AD" or "BC" time maybe? scratch It was thousands of years ago so it seems logical...

LOL Imagine Yuki with a mobile phone! I could imagine her calling Zero constantly asking him about his well being xD

You know I always wondered the same thing, I just never really commented on it haha. I think Matsuri Hino created her own world, that's different from ours. Maybe an alternate reality kind of thing? confused Well if it is in "today's" world the story doesn't really make sense cause it seems time has no meaning, which is also confusing because of all the flashbacks that are essential to the story scratch

i have to agree where you are heading with this silverangel!
it's a different world then ours, while still being like a sort of "mirror"
look at it this way. remember what we learned about how the vampires came? it's when humans where on the brink of extinction that they vampire appeared. so well, this didn't happen in real life of course.
but when you change a bit of history, the story gets altered.
so it's similiar and not. idk, this seems like 1 plausible reason. what do you think?

I think what you're saying is pretty spot on. Basically the world was the same as ours, the only difference is that vampires appeared in that timeline changing the course of history for that reality. (this didn't happen in real life) but with that event the two timelines grew apart and the world in which VK takes place is the one with vampires. With an interference such as Vampires the way things are in our world wold naturally be different from their modern lifestyle. Is that what you were saying? scratch

yea, pretty much! cheers also, it occured to me, didn't we see somewhere that humans at least did have things like cellphones? i can't recall exactly.
but if that was the case, maybe vampire cling more to the "old" ways. and frankly, with what they do, they could live without a cellphone.
we could get loony figuring this out! rofl maybe the author will explain one day Very Happy

rofl I'll admit my head does hurt after thinking about this. I'm not quite sure if we'll get an answer though. I don't think Matsuri Hino is really focused on the timeline for the story. Oh well Very Happy

I think Hino separated Vampire Knight the story/plot in 4 parts:
    That's just my theory anway:
1-Present-Now that Yuuki's fighting Kaname and became a vampire again
    2-HW and Kaname's past 10,000 years ago
    3-YuukixHarukaxJuurixKaname's past
4-When Yuuki was human and studyng with Zero in secret love Kaname thing!
The other things i think she made it irrelevant! scratch

I think that she doesn´t want to show something important with the time Vampire Knight is playing it...it´s not our world because her story wouldn´t work here...she invented a world where peple could similar to us 10.000 years ago and where fashion doesn´t have a time limit...I think this world was only invented because she needed it and not because she wanted to show us something with it
