Aristocratic vampires are only a single cut off of the pureblood bloodlines. They have a portion of human blood, but it's not tremendous. Common vampires are closer to humans in the ratio of human to vampire blood in their ancestry. On the vampire pyramid, as you go down from the top, the amount of human blood increases and the vampires become less powerful; aristocrats are Level B vampires just below the purebloods, who are Level A. Common vampires are Level C, vampires who were once human are Level D, and if they do not obtain blood from the pureblood that turned them into a vampire, then they eventually sink into madness at Level E.
